Solder a pair of 100 watt 100 ohm resistors (wire wound resistors are best for this) across each channels positive and negative. Run speaker wire from the jack to your speaker out on your receiver. Bingo, affordable headphone amp.

ive got my headphones hooked up to my dads old 480W Pioneer stereo amp, through one of 3.5mm Female to 1/4" Male Adaptors (it does the job)
would it sound better going through the the speaker outs?

So does it just the input level just measure how much/the amplitue of the left or right channel and output it in a bar graph (via leds) format?
Nope, it's pretty much a standard LM3915 implemenataion.Did you design the circuit yourself?
