Last night my friend purchased an HDTV 50 inch plasma screen with a resolution of like 1366 x 768 or something like that... I could not believe the picture quality it was sooooo pretty. If I would have guessed the resolution would have been like 4000, how can a res that low look SO good. I even sat up real close and played oblivion.

You could probably put it on your desk if you were 4 feet away from the screen. Does anyone here use a plasma hdtv for your computer? If so, how do you like it?

Don't use a plasma tv for a monitor - screen burn is a problem when you do this. I tried it once with a 42" plasma and It burned in the Windows XP loading screen almost immediately. I now own a 50" LG plasma and I wouldn't even think of trying it. Get a LCD TV if you want to try a TV as a monitor. I did have a 32"er and it made a pretty good monitor as long as I hooked it up through DVI. Text looked like crap through VGA. I'm thinking seriously about getting another LCD TV to replace my 22" Westy with. Probably get another 32" or a 26" model.

Plasma panels can be used as a monitor if you're smart about it. First of all, make sure you have passed a 100hr break-in period viewing a wide variety of things (tone down the damn factory "torch mode") with and without the black bars and make sure any "anti burn-in" features are turned on. Make sure you have IE6, firefox or whatever set to auto-dock the task bars or simply hit "F11" to use full screen when viewing webpages. Also be sure that you have power management set to turn off the monitor in no less than 5 minutes of inactivity.

I've had my Panasonic 42" plasma nearly 2 years now and have had no issues with burn-in...I am inpatient and started playing Xbox on the thing before I even had half the recommended 100hr break-in and also tried hooking it up to my computer. I probably wouldn't use a plasma as my only exclusive pc monitor but it will be fine for occasional use.

i use my 1080p 42 inch westy as a monitor and i absolutely love it. i had a syntax 30 inch lcd tv before and things looked good when connected via DVI. the text is almost unreadable when it was hooked up via VGA. even at limited resolution it looked amazing.
