I am in the market for a 32" or 37" LCD HDTV. I am not sure if I should wait for HDMI 1.3 and 1080p, or if I should just get a Samsung and be happy.

I would hold out for 1080p, at those sizes 1280x720p (or 1366x768) isn't enough for me.

Well, Samsung will be releasing a 32" 1080p tv this year or so I hear. You probably wouldn't want to pay their price though. About HDMI 1.3, on an LCD tv, it offers you nothing unless it's at least a 10 bit panel (to support deepcolor). Seeing how there are no deepcolor sources and it's not even in the next gen DVD specs I don't think it's that important right now.

So HDMI 1.3 is pretty much all hype, makes sense when you look at the official specs. I have read different opinions on whether or not you can tell the difference between1080i/768P and 1080P on a 32"-37" screen.

If your content with your tv for now, then you can afford to wait until more TVs are going to support 1080P. If not, then maybe the Westinghouse 37" LVM-37w3 LCD with 1080P support. If 1080P is not a big deal and would settle for a 32" then a Samsung LNS3251D is pretty good. I personally would want a 1080P TV because it's going to be more standard down the road. But then, depending on what TV you currently have now, even if it's not 1080P an HDTV TV will be a huge upgrade from what you currently have.

Oh I have to ask if your using this purely as a TV or possibly as a computer monitor. For use with a computer definitely get 1080p, if your just using it for TV then 720p should be sufficient at proper viewing distances.

Exactly, if you watch mainly TV then a 720P/1080i TV is good already. However, if you intend to get a PS3 and watch blue ray dvds then 1080P would be more ideal. However, most games are only supporting 720P for PS3 and Xbox 360 right now. Only a few games on the PS3 are outputting 1080P. In my opinion, 24", 30" LCD monitors for PC applications or PC gaming. Watching TV and Console gaming would be LCD/TV. However, PS3 and Xbox 360 looks great on a 24" or 30" LCD because of their high resolutions it can offer and support for HD.

I plan on using it strictly as a TV, and I plan on waiting to see which format wins before I invest an "ass load" of cash into a player.

I have seen all the buzz with the Westinghouse 37", but I'm just a little concerned about quality. So far plans are to wait for 1080p, but not HDMI 1.3.
