My family just got a new LG LCD HDTV, taking advantage of the after-christmas sales. Now, this TV was going to be for the gaming setup upstairs, replacing an aging SDTV. Downstairs in our home theater setup, we have a Samsung DLP HDTV. Now, from the few times I hooked the Xbox 360 to the DLP downstairs (normally it is upstairs), I noticed a significant lag which is a problem with many Samsung DLPs. It made many games difficult to play, and games like DDR were impossible.
In other words, when it came around time to get a TV upstairs, I was very concerned about the lag issue. And I was still burned by it.
Upstairs, we have an Xbox 360, Wii and PS2. I have the Xbox 360 hooked up at 720p and everything plays great, no problems. However, the Wii and PS2 had problems. There was a significant lag (IE., much worse than the lags I noticed on the DLP downstairs). I'd estimate the picture to be about 1/4 second behind. Thinking it must be a problem with hooking everything up through composite, I ordered PS2 and Wii component cables, which I just got today.
After hooking up the Wii and PS2 through component and making sure everything was setup correctly (PS2 set to component output and Wii set to 480p), it looked like everything was fine. However, it wasn't really. Outside of the menus, I'm still getting significant lag on virtually all of my PS2 games (save FFXII) and all of the virtual console games on the Wii. I deduced that there is no lag on anything that is 480p, but the second the picture switches to 480i, there are problems.
Again, the lag is about 1/4 second long. It makes games which require on precise timing unplayable, and every other game just really annoying to play.
Further complicating this problem is:
1. I can't take the TV back. Believe me, I've already brought this up with everyone else in the family and it was a no-go.
2. I can't spend much money at all. Everything was already pretty much blown on the TV itself.
If anyone has any solution at all, that would be great. I was thinking if there was some way to hook up the PS2 and Wii through the VGA port on the back of my TV, that might fix it, but I have no idea how to do that as there were no VGA cables made for Wii AFAIK and the PS2 VGA cables are like impossible to find...
