I have Time Warner Cable with HDTV Cable Box...I'm looking for advice on how I can use this PC to have some HDTV PVR functionality...either OTA or using the existing Cable service...First is this possible? if so how? what equipment do I need?

I've seen ATSC HDTV Tuner cards for OTA HD functionality...but what card do I get? some places I read say I'll need two separate cards all together?? (I don't need the ability to watch one thing and record another) Basically I want to be able to record HD content then put it on my PC HardDrive and then be able to burn it to DVD to save for future viewings (basically record HD Sport programming and save them on DVD)

You can only record OTA HD, you can't record from your cable box. (I'm not going to link to the Avermedia one but it's on Newegg though.)

For an HD tuner Dvico, Vbox and Avermedia make good ones.

You can even get them as external units too if you'd like (the Fusion and Cat's eye that is). Why would you need two seperate cards? For what purpose? All you need is a video card and the tuner.

I have a fusion 5 and am happy with it's over the air performance. I think i am going to try one of the USB tuners next. running out of PCI slots

I have a Fusion5 Lite card for OTA recording. It works perfectly. Works great with SageTV as well.

thanks to all...I'll look at the cards listed....

is the fusion5 MCE compatible? I'll go look myself...asked before I thought....

ok off the link above here is what I was referring to....

"NOTE: Windows® XP Media Center Edition requires a separate analog TV tuner to be installed in addition to an HDTV tuner card"

so will I need another tuner card or no?

Under MCE HD is just an add on so you will need an analog SD tuner inorder to install and use an HD tuner.

SageTV doesn't have this problem, Meedio TV doesn't have this problem, Beyond TV doesn't have this problem, etc.

Thats up to you, HD tuners are rather inexpensive (if you consider a $100 for a PC part inexpensive that is). If you have a supported cable box it might be possible to tune it over firewire but since not even MCE supports 5c encryption you still won't get channels like HBO in HD.

So if I am using Win XP Pro, can I use the Dvico card only, without an analog SD tuner?

I mean, if I wanted to use the Dvico Fusion card in my pc running Win XP Pro, do I need to buy and install a Standard Definition card? I'm asking because I don't want to install 2 PCI cards in my pc. If I can use only the Dvico in my pc then I'll go that route. If not, then I will just buy a Hauppauge PVR500.

Because it seems the requirement for MCE is that you have both a SD & HD.

Thats cause MCE is like several steps back for a PVR app. it depends on what software you're running but no you don't need to install an analog tuner inorder to install an HD tuner.

As I already said this is "problem" of MCE only.
