Anyone using an HDTV as a PC Monitor? The reason I want to know is because I want a new display for my pc but i also want a display that I can play my XBOX 360 on with my friends. A 26" LCD at 1366 x 768 can't be that bad as long as you sit a few feet back, right??? Anyone have any input?

Anyone know if this is viable.
Thanks

A few things about useing a lcd tv for a computer monitor.

1. Most will not let you run at native res from a computer(which sucks)
2. You need to make sure that the will get dim enough to use them up close(many will some will not). They are brighter then your normal lcd monitor as they were designed to be viewed from father away.
3. There res is not as high as a normal monitor(well most are not).

With that being said it is viable. The viewsonic 32 inch lcd is the only one I know of(besides the 37 westing house but that is a monitor not a tv) that is around a grand and will run at native. It runs at 1360x768 and cuts off 6 rows of pixels on each side but is the best I have seen so far. Most of the cheaper lcds(by the 26 inch I'm guessing your trying to keep this kinda on the cheap) don't let you run at native which is really shitty. Why they do this I'm not sure.

I played with one of those and it wouldn't let us run it at native. Maybe they have fixed that. It didn't look that bad but you could tell that it was not running at native res. The 32 did let us run at native(well it dropped 6 rows from the edges but who cares). The 32 looked real good compaired to the others I've messed with.

since none of the people responded appear to actualy have an HDTV hooked up to their computer, I thought I would respond.

I have a 27 inch Syntax Olevia, and it is awesome! Unless you want to spend a fortune, most LCDTVs you will find do 720p (1280X720), but some do a wonky 1366X768 that you mentioned. In either case they are just fine for that size of a screen. Mine is hooked up through DVI, which you should attempt to do as well, and it is crystal clear usable for any application.

Bottom line, this kind of setup works very well. I personally don't miss the extra real estate, but that is because I spend all day working on 2 screens at 1600X1200. When I get home I want to relax and 1280X720 is easy on the eyes. Games look great at that res, and your XBOX will as well.

If you look around you can find a number 27" models for under $900, infact I got mine for under $700 at frys. You won't regret getting a setup like this.

I have a Syntax lt26hve that has a 1280x768 native resolution. No problem running it 1:1

The ones that I have read having problems (running 1:1) have been 1366x768. If you plan on getting one of those, research it well before buying

I think it has something to do with the numbers being divisible by eight
