they're probably delaying cancellation because they're floating all your charges.

I don't think Dell charged anyone's CC yet for this order. It would be illegal for them to do so if they don't ship out the product. They can only charge when they ship.

Once again, it isn't illegal. Newegg does it. Everyone does it. I could have given them a credit card with insufficient funds on it and then they would have been screwed since it would have already been shipped out. They've charged my credit card already.

Ya read the post below you, that isn't true at all.

Newegg ALWAYS charges you before they ship

no they don't actually charge you they just place a hold for that amount on your card. It just seems like they instantly charge you because newegg ships ridiculously fast and is awesome unlike dell who is going to drag their feet for a week before canceling.

I'm in the same boat as Jacob trying to decide if I should cancel now or wait for Dell to cancel my order. It seems clear to me that this deal is not going to go through.

Actually, I thought the same thing until I spoke with a CSR today. They did charge my card, and my banking transaction reflect the removal of said funds...

heh, dell's probably delaying the cancellation so they can use the customer's money to invest/buy other things for the time being. it's like a zero-percent-interest loan for them, and since a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow, it's more like a negative-percent-interest loan for them.

Since this is Dell, and they have done it this way before, I'd say we know the outcome.

However, having worked for a retailer that has honored drastic price mistakes on occasion, there is still a chance.

Let's say Dell let 500 orders go through before they took it down. If they can get Vizio to work a deal with them where everyone would break even(Dell and the manufacturer), they would not cancel. However, 9/10 the manufacturer won't budge and no one is going to take a loss = cancel.

I'm thinking the number of orders easily exceeded 1000.

I'm hoping for the best, but not counting on it. Like its been stated many times in this thread, weird how so many orders were allowed to be placed with out anyone ever reporting the item is OOS. The link just went deactived instead. Also, you would think Dell would just cancel all orders instantly after the error was discovered, but I don't know Dell's practices around this, others have stated what usually happens though.

Yeah, Dell isn't very proactive in these types of situations. Instead of putting some type of filter BEFORE pricing errors happen, they do it after.

I'd figure that putting some type of filter that prompts a warning when an item is suddenly reduced to 17% of its original price while discounts are being typed in is easier then putting a filter and warning for weird spikes in item purchases then dealing with the cleanup and backlash afterwards.

It's fun to dream though about that ultimate deal.

u (everyone) should order and walk away. Wait a week and recheck. Dell will cancel and refund ur money by then if it doesn't go through. This is the main reason why these deals (or not) are so painful to watch process.

i read some ass over at slickdeals ordered 1000 on his own... i hope he gets all of them and has no idea what to do with them

Not that he will get them, but what to do with them is a no brainer if he did.

selling 1000 tvs sounds like a huge pain in the ass to me, i hate shipping large stuff... i would mount 30 of them on one wall and use them as one giant monitor.. that would be sweet

Except when your electric bill comes and costs more than the TVs.

Hmm, that's strange. I thought maybe they'd just put a hold on your CC, as another poster mentioned. I ordered a computer from Dell at the beginning of last month where many thought it was a price error. I kept the order to see what would happen. The computer didn't ship for a week or 10 days and I wasn't charged until around that time either. And with Newegg, since they ship so fast, it seems like my CC is charged around the time they ship. But I realize it could just be coincidental timing.

It's one thing if Dell charges early (i.e., before the item ships). But if Dell knowingly charges CCs for orders they know they can't fulfill, wouldn't that be illegal? Is anyone here a lawyer and would know about that? It may depend on the state's laws.

No cancellation, but I did get a delay notification. Went from an estimated delivery date of 03/06/09 to an estimated delivery date of 03/20/09.

You would think that if they intended to cancel they would've done so by now, before these emails were sent out by their shipping system... Of course, with something like this there's no guarantee until it's sitting on your doorstep, they could just as easy send me a cancellation notice on Monday as they could've today.

yea i hope they dont keep our money till the 20'th. got tuition and rent coming up and ive been spending a little too much.

Then why did you get in on this deal? Everyone who got in, should of got in knowing full well of Dell's practices.

My CC is still charged the amount for the TV... :(

Wondering if I should cancel my order at this point.

IMO unless you need that money, I wouldnt cancel it until Dell does. They cant legally keep your money and not ship you a TV. So keep waiting, you never know, I took advantage of a Dell pricing error before and they shipped me my monitor, so keep waiting.

You do realize that that would require $100,000 in order to pull off, right? And don't forget tax...

I mean, honestly, are you going to believe he has a card with a credit limit over $100,000, or one with a daily limit over $100,000?

EDIT: I still haven't been charged, probably cause I used a credit card. No reason to cancel here.

Easily believable for a business card. Even the small company I used to work for could charge up to $100k for a large equipment purchase.

Someone on slick deals probably just talking crap, but it isn't unrealistic for a reseller to have that kind of purchasing power available.
