just seeing if any one here has any experience with the hdplex 250w or 160w.

reason I am asking is I have a NES build going on right now with a g3258 and a gtx 750ti ,I all ready bought a pico psu 160xt but it cant handle heavy gaming getting random shut downs . after lots of testing I am sure it is just the 12v rail on the pico is to weak.so I am leaning towards the 250w hdplex.

so any user experience would be awesome!
or any other psu I could fit in there
thanks

some pics of the build just because:)

Hey 8bit, I think I've seen your log on the LTT forums, right? Very nice work you've done so far :)

Anyway, I can vouch for the HDPlex 250W. If you look here, this case (the "Default" version) is built entirely based around this PSU. The designer of the case - dondan - has done many tests on the board, and has concluded that it is indeed very powerful. His case, with the 250W HDPlex, can support an unlocked i7 and a GTX 980. If you look around on the thread, there is a link somewhere going to a German forum where he noted down his reults.

Mind you, the board is only capable of this when sufficiently cooled (giving >400W). However, it can also run passively, and supply the advertised 250W. This is more than enough for your specific system.

Combine this with a good 19V power adapter and you're good to go. The 330W Dell is very powerful and can supply a lot more than stated, but you should be fine with a 240W brick.

However, I'm very surprised that the Pico couldn't handle your system. The 160 XT is actually very strong, and can reliably supply a lot more than 160W. I suspect you may have got a slight faulty one :(

Thanks for the reply ,yes this is the one from LTT :)

Well it is good to know that hdplex is going to work out (I all ready order it ) just need to find a decent low priced power brick now, low on funds from all my psu shenanigans.

I also like the fact that I know for sure I'll be able to toss a unlocked i5 and the best current LP gpu in there a few years from now.Thats one thing I wanted with the build was some what easy upgradeability.

any recomendations on a power brick ? I'm searching amazon now for good deals .I'll drop a link if I find something

Looks like it will work, but you might want to check that the receptacle size fits with the HDPLEX.

Out of curiosity, what adapter did you use with the pico? Still puzzled as to how it failed :(

I used a modded 203w Xbox power brick, now you got me thinking..I might order a dell da-2 220w power adapter when I get home .going to try this with the pico before I open up the hdplex. Thank god for free returns with my prime account .this could save me 85 bucks plus the cost of a new power adapter.

decided just to return the pico ,I already have my power brick for the hdplex so it a go from here and I also liked the option to add a unlocked i5 it the future.

thanks for your help!

Aww, did you not even try to see if it works? :(

Oh well, good luck on the rest of your build!

Oh yeah, and what are the dimensions of the NES?
