Can someone can give me a quick primer on hdmi audio or point me to a good ref ?

I have realtek onboard HD audio and its working fine however my 4770's also report to have HD AUDIO. They arent connected to any speakers or sound cards so whats the deal to implement them or switch from the onboard audio? Or do they work together ? I have a Viewsonic HDMI 1080p Full HD monitor with speakers although I'm not using those speakers for they are crap. Anybody shed some light on this for me ?
 
You can use the 4770 "HD Audio" to send audio over HDMI (set that to your default device if that's what you want)

Is the HDMI going into the TV, then out a Digital output into a receiver? You could do it that way, or send an optical out from the Realtek into the receiver.

Either way works the same, you just must choose a "default" device... or tell your programs which audio device to use (I know I could use Foobar on my desktop speakers, then send MPC-HC audio over HDMI for my Movies...)
 
1.Right now my speakers are plugged into the motherboard (realtek HD).

2.My video goes from the 4770 into a Viewsonic 1080p FULL HD monitor using a HDMI cable.

3.On the monitor besides the HDMI port there are 2 audio jacks... 1 green for audio in and 1 blue for audio out. These 2 audio ports, according to the manual, are for the speakers mounted on the monitor...which I'm not using.


SO i guess my question is where do i plug in my surround sound speakers to utilize the HD audio on the 4770 video card ?

OR do I go line out from monitor to line in on the Realtek HD ? Like a pass thru ?
 
hey i got my answer on the ati/amd game boards. You have to use ATI Proprietary HDMI adapter on your cable, then voila it works.
