I'm about to buy the LG LDA-531 DVD player and it does 1080i and 720p upconverting.
My TV is a Viewsonic 27" LCD TV that supports 720p. It does not support HDMI, but does support component.

So as you can tell I want to use this DVD player to upcovert my video to 720p onto this TV.

The tricky part is that this LG dvd player will only upconvert to 1080i and 720p for non-copy protected DVD if I use Component video connection.
But there is a work around. This DVD player will upconvert EVERYTHING including copy protected DVDs if I use the HDMI connection.

I only have so many blank DVDs to make backup copies of my movies so it would be best to use HDMI.
As you know my TV does not support HDMI, and I would like to convert the HDMI to DVI so I can use it with my TV.

The question is; is there any video quality lost going from HDMI to DVI? Or any disadvantage at all? Or will I not be able to tell a difference.

Its 720p, not 760p, but that's besides the point. To answer your question, there will be no apparent loss of quality, because its a digital signal. DVI doesn't support sound like HDMI does, that's probably the only downside.

Thanks for catching the 760 :p , I always type 760 instead of 720 for some reason.... but aslong as you know what I am talking about :)

Thanks for the reply. Ok so I guess I'll get a adapter and just convert.

I will be using the optical out of the dvd player to go to my HK-AVR135, and that should be as good right?

And also, does it matter if I use the DVI cable and a DVI to HDMI adapter, or a HDMI cable and a HDMI to DVI adapter? The DVI cable way would be less expensive compared to the HDMI.
 
Any quality difference in generic brand DVI cables vs more expensive ones like Monster?
Cause I can save a lot of money if generic ones have the same image quality.
 
Unless you are going an extremely long distance and have to worry about signal strength any DVI cable should be just fine IMO.
 
6ft isn't too far..... so should be ok.

I can only find 1 adapter at the store and it's a Monster one. Guess it'll have to do even though it's a little expensive.
