HDMI to component?

I'm about to refresh my gf's computer and her TV only has component for high def. hookups. Will thhis work to carry audio and video to the TV from an ATi 4200 IGP?:

that isn't an hdmi to component cable. just for ps3.
i think your only option is a vga cable, most hdtvs have that input. else you'll have to buy a graphics card that supports hdtv / component out. most graphics cards have that and come with the adapter for component out. this is the cheapest one i found...

That cable won't work - it's for PS3s. You might be able to use a setup like this:

HDMI to Female DVI

DVI male to VGA Female

VGA male to Component Cable

But that would be a cumbersome setup putting alot of stress on the HDMI jack, plus you're looking at about $50 worth of parts.

For that price you could get a cheapo video card that directly supports HD video via component cable.

Thanks for the info guys, that stinks but oh well...

It's not a high def TV - I think it *might* do 480p. Would a VGA -> component adapter carry audio?

EDIT: also, what about a VGA -> composite even?

Does it have a VGA input? If it does it usually has a speaker input for the PC too.

A VGA to component would carry video only, but you can pass your audio through a stereo to RCA cable for the audio part
