HDMI Sound Issues

I recently purchased a Radeon HD 5550 card for my HTPC and occassionally when I start it up the sound is muted and when I reboot, everything is fine. I have had no issues with video output. I am just wondering what could cause this? I am running Windows 7 32bit.
