My HDMI connection to my receiver reverts to 2 channel stereo and I'm looking for help. Here's the details.
Setup: WIndows 7, XFX ATI Radeon 5770 HDMI plugged into Yamaha RX-V667 (connected to TV). Usually the 5770 outputs through DVI and onboard audio to PC 5.1 speakers. I have Catalyst set up to switch between the two displays with a hotkey.
Problem: When things are running fine, I can output 5.1 audio through HDMI. When my display goes to sleep and then wakes up, the sound is now stereo, and that's the only speaker config available in the Windows sound options. If I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in, 5.1 returns. If the PC sleeps (not just the display) and wakes back up, 5.1 remains, so I just shut off the display sleeping from power settings, and thought I was fine. Then the next time I shutdown my PC, it was set to the monitor and onboard audio. When I booted back up and switched to the HDMI output, only stereo was available. If I reset while in HDMI, 5.1 becomes available on bootup again.
So that's the deal, this whole HDMI syncing is complete bullshit and a total pain in the ass. Is there any way to quickly resync HDMI without having to dig back behind my PC or receiver and unplug/replug the cable?
