I'm looking at buying a new laptop with no VGA port, but I want to use an external LCD. If I got a monitor with HDMI, can I connect the monitor to the laptop's HDMI port the same as a VGA connection? Would the resolution be the same?
 
Clone would be same resolution. Just external would be the resolution of the external screen...
 
yes, you can simply connect the hdmi cable to your monitor and you'll be able to mirror screens or use the monitor as a separate one. the resolution will depend on the external monitor and your graphics card's output capability.

Laptops with HDMI very easily connects to:
- Most HDTV's
- Most computer monitors with DVI ports (via DVI-HDMI dongle)
