HDMI on Suround Sound

Hey,
with this system, could I connect the hdmi output to my monitor and connect somthing to the component input, then have the component device be displayed on the monitor through the hdmi output? Or is the hdmi output only for the hdmi inputs? The reason I want to know is because my monitor doesnt have component.

It probably doesnt have anything more than HDMI passthrough. You need something like a Yamaha RX-V2700 to do analog-> digital upconversion to HDMI.
