I've recently entered into the market and will be building a computer and I have noticed now LCD monitors now have hdmi inputs and so do motherboards and such.

My question is what are the benefits of connecting the monitor with hdmi? Or do I even need a monitor with an hdmi wire? Is it neccessary?

Thanks alot

Smaller cable and audio are the two advantages. HDMI and DVI use the same video signal, so no difference there. HDMI <-> DVI adapters are cheap and plentiful for that very reason - its just a pin change. Manufacturers like it for the same reasons they like "Full HD" - marketing. A 23" 1920x1080 doesn't sound impressive sitting next to a 24" 1920x1200, but the former can be called "Full HD" and sold for almost the same price.
