Not sure exactly how to word this, I have been using an HDMI to DVI cable, the HDMI for my monitor and DVI for my GPU. I recently changed the cable to a plain HDMI cable because I got annoyed with having to unscrew the DVI cable. I have noticed that it takes longer to get picture to my monitor now. For example: I miss the BIOS and actually have to wait a few seconds to see my Windows logon screen.

What's the deal with this?

I think monitor need to do some signal processing if using hdmi/DP ports. I have the same problem after switch to using DP on my 3008. There is a slight delay now when i start/reboot my machine, especially compare to the 2007 that is connected via dvi cable.

Potentially with DisplayPort yes, but HDMI and DVI-D (single link) are essentially identical electrically, enough that you certainly wouldn't need any signal processing for HDMI (hence the fact that you can get simple DVI to HDMI cables).

@OP: If I had to guess, I'd say your Graphics Card was warming up the HDMI port slower than the DVI one but I honestly don't know.
