Well since my PC is having a bunch of problems on it's own. I've hooked up my Laptop (through HDMI on my HP Ency to my Viewsonic VX2433 (HDMI) with a regular cable) and I've noticed that both the picture quality seems way off and it's not using the entire screen, like it has a nice thick black frame around it. If I'm not mistaken the HDMI is suppose to use the same or very similar signal to DVI so have I missed something or done anything wrong? I want to have the whole screen being used, but more importantly get the good picture quality.
 
if the laptop has an ati gpu look in the ccc panle for over scaling and make sure its set to 100%.

CCC->Graphics->desktop & displays->please select a display downward triangle->configure->scaling options

While technically the HDMI and DVI video signal should be the same, GPUs tend to do some funny things when hooked up with one (perhaps treating it as HDTV which have underscan/overscan).
 
Make sure your laptop is running the native resolution of the lcd
 
The overscaling seemed to fix the issue with the fullscreen. However the quality of the picture still seems way off, however I haven't calibrated it like I did with my desktop computer.
