Ok, reading this forum and avsforum; I have a question. I have charter st. louis basic cable - no box, just channel 1-99. Can I buy Hdhomerun box and get SD or HD channels from basic charter cable service? i am current not in the market for antenna or getting a cable card and I only have one PCI slot free in my current computer.

I am running vista mce on P4 3.2, 2 GB, 512mb 8500GT and tons of storage.

HDhomerun will not give you analog (NTSC) cable channels only digital (ATSC) OTA & QAM (clear - terrestrial). The channels you will get is based on how many digital cable channels your service provider has available that are not scrambled. Comcast (den of thieves I tell ya) in my area (miami, Fl) only has about 40 unscrambled digital cable channels and that does NOT include channels such as cartoon network, espn, etc. You can check with your cable provider and see how many digital channels you'll receive w/o a cable box.

In that guide, I believe the unknown channels are the encrypted ones that you will not get. Also, watch out for duplicates (different resolutions) and "crap" that you won't watch.
