HDD to SSD cloning bootong problem.

Hey guys as always I turn to HF for help.

Bought a new SSD the Crucial M500 480GB, and I cloned my windows 7 drive onto it using AOMEI Partition Assistant. It seemed to work cause I can see the drive when I bootup into windows on my old HDD and it has all the files and folders.

Now when i try to boot up with SSD it doesnt work, tells me something that the drive Im trying to boot with has problems and what not. Ive set it up in the bios to be the first bootable drive, what could I be doing wrong? Is it that the cloning failed?

Any help would be great. I really cant be bothered with installing windows 7 and all my programs again.

Check to see if your HDD is booting in ACHI, IDE, or RAID. it may be set to boot the opposite of what the SSD is booting as. If so try matching it and see if the error goes away. Make note of the bios settings and then reset if it that doesn't help. In my experiences theres something in the BIOS that interferes with the SSD.

Hi, Brashen,

When you cloned the old drive to the SSD did you clone the entire drive to include the Master Boot Record, or just the windows partition? If you didn't then the SSD is not bootable.

@ Cataulin: Thanks for the suggestions, I tried chaning the system configuration to AHCI but no dice gave me the same error.

@ Chuklr: Thanks for that but in all the tutorials I came across none of the mentioned or even alluded to the MBR. Checking the options in the program there is nothing that refers to it or any option to do so. How would I go about making sure this gets cloned properly?
 
May have failed, not copying the MBR properly maybe, could you try CloneZilla?
 
Hey Guys,

So I've managed to fix the problem...well a friend of mine did. He installed acronis and redid the clone procedure, took out my initial boot drive and set the cd drive as the first boot than the SSD.

Its working beautifully now and Im amazed at the speed of the programs now. Definitly thinking of upgrading my cache disks to SSD now.
