i have a 4 GB hdd.i have used up 2.1 GB but my windows is showing only 1.2 GB free.
how do i correct this ?
 
for one, what are you still doing worrying about a 4Gb, and second (and more pertinant) what operating system.... 98, 95, 3.1 maybe??
 
That doesn't sound too far off from what it should be. You don't get the full capacity of a drive when it's formatted.

Always remember: 1000 != 1024
 
i am using win XP and secondly i know 1000!=1024 but that does not mean i wil loose 600 mb and one more thing it'a actualy a 4.3 GB hdd windows showing as 4.00 GB already making up for 1mb=1024kb
 
Aside from making sure there aren't any massive stashes of temp files or crud in your recycle bin, see how large your pagefile is. Windows has a nasty habit of not adding it into used space calculations in certain circumstances.
 
If he's running xp, he's probably got the system recovery setup, if he'd disable that it might free up alot of space real quick.
