I've noticed over the last couple of days that some of my files aren't working correctly. I have psd's that I created just a couple of weeks ago that now won't open. I have jpg's that won't display the picture in acdsee or photoshop, although thumbnails will show in windows explorer and photoshop's thumbnail viewer. I have video files that don't play completely, even thought the file download was completed.
I haven't noticed any physical hard drive issues (clunking, whirring, etc...) and I reformatted thinking that something could have gotten screwed up with windows. I've also tried copying the files to other directories hoping that maybe it was just a bad sector or something. If the file was broken before it was also after.
Unfortunately, I don't have any type of raid installed, but I'm wondering if that would even help in an instance like this. If a file gets corrupted, then wouldn't the corrupted file just get replicated, causing 2+ corrupted files? Would there be any way to get this resolved?

It really depends on wat is going on. Run a chkdisk and go to the manufacturers website and get their disk tools. Run those tests and see if you can find the problem.

I ran seagate's diagnostics and it showed critical errors.
Bah.
