HDD not available with RAID card

I bought a SATA HDD last week to add to my PC (not SATA ready). I bought the power conversion plug (sata to pata power) and a RAID controller card to connect the SATA plug too. I connected everything and installed the drivers/softward for the card but I can't get the HDD to show under my computer but it's recognized with the card's software. I simply just want the new HDD to show up as another drive. I'm not trying to use it as a RAID setup.

Did I purchase the wrong controller card??

There is only one HDD connected to the controller via SATA. I have two HDDs and one DVD drive connected onboard via PATA.
 
Did you initialize the disk in device management?

Right click on my computer, select "manage", go to "disk management", an automated pop up should prompt you to initialize your disk.
