I'm getting a new case and I was wondering something. I'm a fan of lights, and love to mix and match combinations of them in my case. Would it be possible to hook up a hard drive activity light to an LED or cold cathode light on the inside of the case so instead of a little light blinking when the hard drive was accessed, you would get a whole strobe light show.
 
Well, seeing as your hard drive light is nothing more than an led, hooking up an led (or relocating the one in your computer case) would be easy. I think the only thing you'd have to be certain of is getting an led of the right voltage (and you've now reached the end of my knowledge concerning led's!! :p ).

As far as a ccfl goes, they tend to warm up a little slowly to use in this manner, imho. At least the UV ones I have do......tho thinking about it, you can get sound activating modules for ccfl's, so maybe I'm just full of it?? Who knows?? :rolleyes:

well, heres what i think i know,

regular hdd lights are 5v... ccfl's require 12v to turn on. regular led's need 5v to run in a computer, maybe you could find a BRIGHT led, or two, and hook them to your hdd light terminals on your motherboard?
 
I've gotten a CCFL to turn halfway on at 5v.....

or, you could run a little relay between the sound-activation part of some CCFL's and the hddLED....... just a thought
