Hey,
Yay, today I just recieved two 200GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 HHDs PATA 133 w/ 16 MB cache from Newegg. I already have a SeaGate 120 GB. Here is my dilema:
1) Can I just install the two DiamonMax 10 HDDs into a RAID 0. But leave my SeaGate out of the RAID. Then install an operating system on those drives, and transfer back-up files (like DVD movie backups) to the DiamonMax 10s and format the SeaGate. Then, simply use the SeaGate as a storage device with a different drive name, that I can just save stuff, like movie files to and retrieve from?

I am not sure how this would work though. Anyway, can anyone help me think of what I should do with 200 GB two DiamondMax 10 HDDs and 1 120GB SeaGate, and how I can transfer the contents of the SeaGate(like. folders with ISO images) to the DiamondMax 10 HDDs.

In order to put the two drives in raid 0 you will lose all the data on both drives.
 
OK, here's my two suggested setups:

1. Use one DM10 as the "c:" remove all the other drives, install windows on it, and then put the other two back in as secondary storage drives. Partition the second DM10 into two piece, one small (2gb) partition at the beginning for swap, and then the rest for storage

2. Or, do the same thing, except partition the primary DM10 in half first, so you've got 100gb for windows/programs and then 100gb of storage. Helps a lot when reinstalling windows.

Note, that in either of the two above configs, you can also ditch your old 120gb drive if you don't want it anymore.
 
Ok, so I hooked up the two DiamonMax 10 hard drives into RAID 0, (striped.) How do I now just use them as storage HDDs?
 
RAID-0 for a storage drive is generally known as a Bad Thing TM
I would really suggest against setting up a RAID-0 array unless you know what you're doing and have a viable reason why you need RAID-0 (video editing, temp 3d rendering space, etc.)
Sounds like you're not a great candidate for a RAID array if you don't know how to use it now that you've made it.

Never mind, I figured it out. I made RAID 0, but later I might change it. However, for now, RAID 0 will do. I am going to make using MAXBLAST this the primary HDD and my SeaGate my secondary drive. Using Norton Ghost I will copy the hard drive contents over. (Thats the plan)

Also, I put the HDDs on one channel. I have one DM10 HDD as the primary drive and the other as a slave. Will this severly hurt the performance to the point I will notice?

One more question:
I took the jumper thingy off the slave HDD because its a slave. However, I accidently threw it away with the box :( Can I replace it with a jumper thingy from like another drive?
