I got this Satellite reciever that I want to use the harddrive from.

Its a sata western digital 250 gig drive, when I run it in my system, the computer cannot see the drive, also bios screws up when I try to enter it (takes a long time to enter as well)

Sometimes when I do get into bios, its completely messed up, like gibberish everywhere etc. but I can make out at one part "multi-bit ecc error"

When I take the drive out its all back to normal. Also windows wont boot with the pvr drive hooked up.

I understand that it probably has some type of partition, but any reason why the PC wont eve see it? Mabey some kind of protection to stop people from trying to transfer movvies etc off the drive on to PC?

BTW I am not trying to do that, rather I just want to use the 250 gig drive as a regular 2nd drive in my computer as the pvr box is of no use at all anymore.
 
How about, disconnect your existing drives except a floppy drive, boot the computer, go into bios, and set boot order to floppy first.

Then hook up only the pvr drive and the floppy, boot up into dos, and format the drive and the mbr.

Also, you can get the WD tool here for dos, might offer some nicer tools for wiping the drive.

System completely halts on the drive detection when booting.

Also, once in dos, when I do manage to finally get there, I cant see the PVR drive at all, like nothing is hooked up. (power is hooked up to the drive and it does turn on)
 
Turn drive detection off. (Turn off "auto") Then boot it with the drive connected, and see if you can get into bios. If you can, go to the HDD section, and see if you can configure the drive there, then reboot and see if you can get past the halt.

Make sure you have your sata drivers loading in Dos.
