I'm looking for the right HDD for my htpc. I intend to use it as a PVR also so it will likely be on all the time. I'm assuming Windows MCE will hibernate/idle and come back to life when it's time to record (am I dreaming?). I'm considering the following 1TB drives:
Western Digital: WD10EADS
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS
(Seagate ST310005N1A1AS - out of my pricerange)
I did a comparison of these drives here:
http://www.storagereview.com/php/be...&devID_0=362&devID_1=352&devID_2=361&devCnt=3
but the WD is WD10EACS and the Seagate is the ES.2 version which I think is for business. I also found individual reviews here:
WD10EACS: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article804-page2.html
Samsung: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article843-page2.html
Seagate: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article803-page2.html
Both storagereview and silentpcreview indicate that the WD has the lowest idle power and all other specs seem more or less comparable to me. I hate to waste energy but I must have my tv! So is this the right HDD for me? Or are there other things I should be looking at?
