Hi,

I have always brought Western Digital HDD and i have never had a problem with them. my current pc is configured with 3 western digitals, 2 of them being connected to the SATA and 1 on a IDE and i also have a MAXTOR which i brough as i needed the space quickly.

My problem is 1 of my HDD keeps stopping and rebooting. Not thew pc but just 1 of the HDD's. i cant tell which 1 it is and i wouldn't know how to find out as 99% of the time it works fine. When it happens it last for about 4 secs and the computer freezes and i cant move the mouse. But then once the HDD is spinning again it works fine. It tends to do this about 2 or 3 times in a row and then i does not do it for about another 3 hours. I have had this happen before and then it stopped for about a month and now its back.

Could anyone please advise me of how to find out which HDD it is and how i can fix the problem ?

Many thanks in advance.

If it is rebooting it is probably the main drive. Simply go on to the drive manufactures website and download their disk diagnosis software and give it a run

im not sure which drive it is though.

When i say rebooting, i dont mean the whole pc reboots, just the hdd. the pc freezes and then is fine again after 4-5 seconds.

I will get the WD and Maxtor utilities and give them a check too.

many tanks
