Not sure if this is the issue with hard drive on motherboard or cable or what. But one day I wake my computer from sleep and it BSoDs. I restart and it takes forever to get to desktop (usually instant on 3770k), i go to my computer and notice the WD10EZEX drive is missing (it barely had anything on it, couple games). It doesn't show up at all at "My Computer". I go to Disk Management and this instantly pops up for the drive.

I click "OK" and it says "The system could not find the file specified". I click "OK". I right click the missing drive and click properties, everything seems fine.

Any ideas?

Also, the drive is not showing up in Boot Priority list in the BIOS.

Swap SATA cables
Swap mobo SATA connectors
Swap both

I've had SATA cable AND mobo connector problems lately so I no longer automatically assume it's a software or BIOS issue... check the hardware first.

This is a relatively new motherboard, I bought it last month I think.
I've had this same issue with another motherboard.
I guess it's the sata cables then? The cables are pretty twisted and turned in the case and some might be getting squeezed by the chassis side panel. Could that be causing them?
Also, I wonder if there are any coiled/low profile sata cables that I can buy that are more elastic. Because the cables I have now are rigid plastic ones.

Does CrystalDiskInfo warn about UltraDMA CRC errors?

Wow, well, this is strange. I just ran CrystalDiskInfo and the drive instantly came back online and I got a prompt from Windows if I want to play files or view folders. This is strange..I've restarted many times and the disk wouldn't come back but running CrystalDisk and it's back. I can view the folders and everything.

I too, have had this problem lately on a Z68 & Z77 MB's. The fix was as blastingcap said.

The Sata cables I was using didn't fit tightly on the tab in the MB Sata connector. In other words, the slot on the Sata cable was to big. The fix was to find cables that fit tightly in the MB Sata connector. Problem hasn't occurred since.
