HDCOTM Nomination requirements...

What is the reason for having to wait a full rolling year before being eligible to be nominated again? I understand not being eligible within' the same calendar year, but lets say someone wins in April of 2017. Why can they not be nominated in Jan 2018? A full calendar year has passed so for the sake of HDCOTY they wont be in it twice.

Just curios to know.
 
I was thinking the same recently ; maybe good to reset begin of the year

In fact, lets go one step further - if you make it to the second round of HDCOTY, you get a 'cool off year' before you are eligible for HDCOTM again :D

Well it should be a calendar year. Because when someone wins in December they'll only be eligible for nomination the last month of the calendar year and if they happen to win, again, then it'll be another year before they can even be nominated. If they lose, then they lost out on a calendar year worth of nomination potential.
 
I think all previous winners and future winners should get a free lifetime membership to Gen May...lol

I think it should be awarded once per calendar year. If someone really did some great work for the team, they should be able to receive that recognition then vs. waiting however many months.

As for HDCoTY? Once you win that, you're done. Kind of an honor and a curse if you think about it. See, Skillz, if you win then you're done; but I'll have the chance to be a 4x HDCoTM recipient. Actually, I rather like the sound of that. ;)
 
I do agree that HDCoTY should be exempt from all future HDCoTM nominations.

I mean after all the HDCoTY is like the Catalina Wine Mixer of the [H]orde.
 
Interesting and valid points by Skillz and traditionalist EXT64. On the one hand if you won in March you'd haf to wait until the end of the following year to be eligible ( jeez we might lose someone before the time is up ) or someone rides the wave of popularity after winning late in the year and coasts to a win while other accomplishments fade into memory. How about not eligible if you won in last 3-4 months of calendar year? No easy win this round but not totally forgotten in the next?
 
Proposal:


Past winners cannot be nominated before January the following year of the win - or - three month after their last win; whatever comes first.

Or in simple words: every DCotM in 2017 until September is eligible from January 2018 onwards; those won for Oct, Nov, Dec 2017 have to wait until February, March, April 2018.

I really don't understand why this needs to change. Some of us a little further down the charts have dreams of maybe one day being recognized for continued efforts. If the Top Dogs keep getting cycled through wins at a higher rate then good luck with that. Certainly a reward for exceptional contributions is justified but you can't ignore the upper middle of the pack that churns out solid gains day in and out.
