Old benchmark but relative to many older games that people may play.

Please post your scores.

useful as always Sonda now go wait in the corner until the green team arrives to the party.

28223 3dMarks on my system with single 7970 - running @ 4.2 ghz using stock 3d mark settings.
17226 3dMarks @ 1080p with all sliders maxed 8XAA etc.

Running stock clocks on 7970.

the only thing i find useful on 3dmark06 is the cpu score.

Cpu and gpu synergy is important to video gaming performance. UT3 doesn't do as well as expected with 79xx cards. I wouldn't be surprised if other older games don't scale well with AMD GCN cards.

I could try running it after work, but this benchmark my CPU will bottleneck me to around 18000... on my previous systems with 5770,6850,6870 the score only changed with CPU overclocking. my gpu clock speeds did very little.

How's the game play of the 3dmark06?

You can use it as a reference for games of that era.

Also as video card technology progresses you would expect nice even scaling in performance on all benchmarks.

3dMark06 and UT3 performance doesn't seem to scale well with AMD HD GCN cards.

No you can't, 3dmark is a stand alone benchmark, not real world performance.

If you don't get the difference of real world performance vs a benchmark then i don't know what have you been doing these past 3.5 years at HardOCP, a site that focuses on real world performance.

Unfortunately HardOCP didn't include UT3 my favorite game in any of the HD7XXX reviews.

Just bringing up an observation I have noticed in my research in deciding on buying a HD7XXX card.

You know, stating crap without actual sources is just stating crap?

"more people are reporting problems with performance of older DX9 games." => crap statement with nothing to substantiate it.

Also, have fun playing 3dmark06 on your 470 and stop coming to the AMD subsection of the forum.

Looks like more people are reporting problems with performance of older DX9 games.

My GTX470 gets around 33,000 on this benchmark.

Fresh benchmark 32,544 http://3dmark.com/3dm06/16443377

Default clocks on GPU, default Win7 Pro install, no tweaks or services disabled, no reboot, latest driver, just shut browser and go.
3DM06 = 33167 "your system is similar to others with this hardware"

That sounds decent. What speed on CPU? Got a ORB link?

I haven't ran that bench in years, but here is a quick one at 4.7

The last entries were from my W3520/HD5870, never bothered with the 6970, then the older entries were 7900GTX SLI, 7800GTX SLI (both were $1600+ per pair in Canada), and the mythical x800xt-pe, lol.

I'll see what maxing it in CCC at 5Ghz gets on the default Win7.

Edit: maxing sliders in CCC at 4.7Ghz took it from 33153 to 33861

Thanks Zpaf.

Since posting this thread the drivers have improved and scores seem to be scaling better than what I was seeing when I posted this score.

Overall the card still doesn't seem extremely impressive for this benchmark. Just a benchmark but it is nice to see the new cards ability to perform on it.

or you could use games of that era and fraps..... 3dmark is useless and this from someone who bought full versions of this crap.

It's just a benchmark. I didn't pay for it. I run the free versions and I do appreciate it.

This benchmark is still one of a handful used competitively by pro over clockers.
