HD7970 locked bios

Hi guys.
So i have two XFX 7970 cars which has a locked bios.

Not a big deal since i use ATIwinflash to adjust the voltage. But is there any way, a bios or something that i can flash to make it easier to adjust it in like MSI Afterburner?
 
i think the problem is xfx uses non reference boards to save money on there end...using bios for a reference board could lead to problems......if your card has the bios switch no problem....if like mine without one better have a backup card unless your terrific at blind flashes....xfx has great customer support but the use cheaper hardware imo

which exact card are you using?

I have two XFX non reference cards with no bios switch.
So i'm screwed in other words?

I can change the voltage with AtiWinflash, but i take just to long time when i'm trying to find a good overclock.

There pretty well known for having worse than stock cooling for vrm's, and for that matter there's no way i know of to even check the vrm temps...These cards are not marketed for being above average overclockers, but they work as intended. Sell the cards and get something designed for world class overclocks, if you really feel like your screwed.:rolleyes:

Also i have no idea how your changing voltage with a program designed to flash new bios on ati cards, but i don't know everything....Did you not buy the cards to play games or just run benchmarks lol....either way msi afterburner will allow you to overclock them as high as possible. my clocks are listed in my sig and anything higher either results in lower performance or crashes......best of luck
 
are they the 7970 xfx ghost ones? i was able to flash the bios on those, have you tried in atiflash the unlock switch? i forgot which command was to unlock
 
the thing is......even without overclocking at all.....your gpus should maintain around 120fps in the most demanding game i know off which is bf4...enjoy what you have:)
 
Well. I running my both XFX cards at 1200/1750, but i just wanted to see if there was any way to adjust the voltage in MSI Afterburner instead of vBios editor for Radeon/AtiWinflash.

The VRM1 and VRM2 temperature reading works fine in Aida64, and mine stays at 38-40c at 100% GPU usage, so it' not so bad.

Afterburner only works with certain controllers.
They generally list which cards and controllers are accessable in the release notes.
If it doesn't work at present it probably wont.
Have you checked the box in your Afterburner to "unlock voltage control" ? If you have, and it doesn't work, it wont.

The 7970 launch included a single fan model with 1 DVI port (fx-797a-tnfc/fx-797a-tnbc). These were amd boards with unlocked voltages.

Then we switched over to our Dual fan models, however we did the first few batches with AMD reference boards,which-of-course is unlocked/accessible.

then the XFX boards came in, we added a 2nd DVI port and changed the voltage setup. The voltage isnt technically "locked," its just not accessible with the usual software.

If a 7970 from XFX has 1 DVI port, it will always be Voltage Unlocked. All single fan 7970s are voltage unlocked. Some Dual fan models are voltage unlocked (10%-Rare- Only single DVI models)

-7950's excluded, there are single dvi models that are voltage locked.

Nice to see a rep here at Hardforum :) Wish you where around when i had problem with one of my fan that made some funny noise and at the end stopped working. Also had some problems locating if i had a reference or non-reference board, and the online support gave my no help at all.

After i removed my cooler i noticed that i had a non-reference board, so i went watercooling since you guys couldn't sell me a spare fan.

I have two R7970 Double Dissipation Edition. With only one DVI port, two fans and no bios switch.

That's not entirely true.

I don't know where your getting you info, everything the xfx rep stated was 100% correct from all the research i have done....were is this contradicting proof you speak of?

OMG! What is it you dont understand?
I have one DVI port and a locked voltage control.

Enough said. I have all the proof on another forum. PM me if you want the link mate ;)
 
ahhh i see now...thought you had the models with the 2 dvi ports lol i must have missed that part.....heck i though those were reference design
 
Interesting. Its not impossible, however it would be exceptionally unlikely.

We replace faulty fans free of charge at xfxsupport.com. We've never charged for fans and ship free fan replacements with or without warranty.

7970s (reference or XFX) never had dual bios switches to my knowledge, at-least none of ours from AMD did. XFX never designed a single DVI 7970 PCB, if its a single DVI, it must be the AMD design, which means it shouldnt be voltage locked.
- Have you gone into Afterburner, made settings "reference design" then try to adjust the voltage? That should work.

Where is the thread?

Because you said "Mate" ill guess you are not in the North/South America Region, which would explain why support didn't send you free fans... Technically thats Asia region, which is a different support team.

Let me know about the single DVI model you have, or link me to that forum. If you still need the fans and are in the N./S. America region, i can send them.
