Hi I'm in the market searching for an unlockable HD 6950. To my dismay though I have found many non-reference boards in the market and I'm kind of hesitant at pulling the trigger to any one of them, especially considering that there is no guarantee that any of them can be unlocked.

Given my relative inexprerience with AMD/ATI cards can you recommend one (or several) brands from which it would be safe to buy my HD6850 (as far as shader unlockability goes)...

You'll gain very little by unlocking just the shaders, so IMO just pick the one you like and have fun with it.

I know but the system is not for me and he knows nothing of overclocking, so unlocking the shaders is the only form of overclock I can give him...
Also I'd liked it very much if the card wrote "HD6970" (given that I would have had the ability to flash the 6970 bios)
 
Hmm.. i could see a diffrents myself but i run Eyefinity. (HIS) ref card will unlock.
