HD6870: add a 7850???

Is it possible to xfire a 7850 with a 6870? If it's physically possible, would that cripple the 7850 to act as if it were just a 6870?

dont think so, you can crossfire different cards in the same generation, not cross generation last I knew.

Yes, it would hold the 7850 back. You're better off getting another 6870 (if you can find a new one or ebay). You can only Crossfire cards of the same generation. Crossfire from wikipedia:

CrossFire can be implemented with varying-GPU cards of the same generation (this is in contrast to Nvidia's SLI, which generally only works if all cards have the same GPU). This allows buyers who have varying budgets over time to purchase different cards and still get the benefits of increased performance. With the latest generation cards, they will only crossfire with other cards in their sub series. For example, GPU in the same series can be crossfired with each other. So a 5800 series GPU (e.g. a 5830) can run together with another 5800 series GPU (e.g. 5870). However GPU's not in the same hundred series cannot be crossfired successfully. (e.g. a 5770 cannot run with a 5870)

No, it simply wouldn't work at all.

Would not work at all. It works only with GPUs of the same GENERATION AND TIER. That means that any 57xx GPU would work with any other 57xx GPU, but NOT with a 58xx card, any 69xx with any other 69xx, but will not even work with a 69xx and 68xx.
