My HD590 broke down this week and i have sent in for repair and it's going to take 2 to 3 weeks. I am thinking about upgrading to HD650.

I would be using the cans with X-Fi Extreme Music UNAMPED because my budget would only be enough for the cans. Maybe in 3-4 months i can afford to spend around €100-150 for an amp. I will be using the cans for mainly music listening and occasional gaming as i already have a 5.1 system for the movies

My questions are:

1. Would the 650 be an improvement over 590 unamped?
2. Would it be better if i spend the €250 on an amp instead on 650?
3. Is there a significant difference between the 650 and the 600 running unamped? Because i can get the 600 for €50 cheaper.
4. I can probably get DT880 cheaper but i have read around head-fi that it is more difficult to drive than the 650 which concerns me because im planning to run the unamped for a few months before i can afford an amp.

I think that is all. If there is any other suggestion on what i should do to improve my music listening pleasure, please do tell me. Thanks

You don't want to run anything in the 580-600-650 series unamped. It's just not how they're meant to work. If you like your Senns but want to run without a good amp you're better off sticking with the 515 - 555 - 590 - 595 series. Maybe 595s?

But would an unamped 600 or 650 sounds better than unamped 590? I know if amped they would kick the 590 ass. I am going to get an amp, just not now because if limited budget.

Would the 595 offer substantial improvement over the 590? Sorry for asking but i have not heard it but reading from the model number, i assume they dont differ alot.
