After BCB the 4890's will only be ~$140 should I go for it or wait for the 5800's to go down in price?

I'm upgrading from an 8800GT SC, but 140 is getting so hard to pass up! :(

I went from a 8800GTS to the HD4890, I would do it again, I did it at $180.

I'm waiting for a refresh on the 5000 series.

If the 5850 at ~$280 is out of your budget, definitely go with the 4890. Otherwise, wait a month and see if prices on the 5850 drop back to MSRP

I'm on the same boat for my new build. I almost pulled the trigger on 4890 but I think I'm going to wait since I build a rig once every 5 years or so. My motherboard and memory should be here next week. I'm waiting for the XFX 5850 to get back in stock at Amazon. Newegg has it available but the tax will rape me.

Get a 4890, and when you upgrade to an i7 platform, almost all of which support Crossfire, you can drop in a 2nd 4890.

I vote for the 5850. Although I wouldn't count on the price dropping as it has actually *increased* since release due to poor availability (and lack of competition). Probably will be 4-5 months before any noticeable price drop and then you may even like what Nvidia is offering...assuming they have released something by then.
