Going to buy 4670 card (Gee, my 3650 just died after 8 months).
Was reading reviews at Newegg, somebody mentioned that 1GB is slower then 512MB. Did not understand why. Is it true? So which one to pick up?
I am not much in games, though will use for movies, and 3D (sketchup and similar), running Vista.

Thats what I heard too. The memory clock is supposed to be faster on the 512 version. 2000 MHz compared to the 800 or so on the 1GB if I remember right.

Nice budget card the 4670. $65 and can play most games with most bells and whistles and draws extremely low power. Doesnt even need a plug from your PSU. Gets its power from the PCIE slot.

Thanks, Gym Rat.
Yes that is why I decided to buy it.
In terms of performance, is it significant difference 2000 vs 800?
What is the advantage having 1GB for non gaming, should I worry about it let say year later?

As for future proofing a year down the road, just remember - the INSTANT you buy that 4670, it will be obsolete. :D

Im kinda new to all this myself but if Im not mistaken, the 1 GB would only come in handy if youre going to be using very high resolutions like 1900x1200.....but if youre going to be at those resolutions, youll need a beefier card anyway. So basically, before you would need 1 GB memory, youd need a faster card.

the 1GB is useless in all accounts.. there card just doesnt have enough performance to make the 1GB useful.. the only game it would make a difference in is GTA IV.. go with the faster 512mb.. the speed of the ram makes a huge difference in gaming.. since thats about 70-75% of your frame rate..

now if you are doing renderings that require the video ram to do the rendering.. then the 1GB comes in handy.. but if you arent.. stick with the 512mb..

At around what point in GPU's would it be worth getting the 1 GB version? Im probably going to buy the 512 GB version of the 4850 but will be playing on a 17" monitor for now and eventually at 22" monitor at most down the road. Is 1 GB still not worth it at this level for strictly gaming?

1GB version is worth it I think. At 4870 it is. I don't know about below.

what happened to all the knowledgeable enthusiasts around here? first off its 2000mhz gddr3 for the 512mb model and 1800mhz ddr3 for the 1gb models. next the 4670 is not strong enough to run games at settings that will utilize over 512mb of ram anyway. if anything the 1gb model could be slower.

Nope, not worth it. More than 512MB is never useful below 1680x1050, period. At 1680x1050 (the common 22" resolution), more than 512MB might help a little bit if you're doing very high AA settings, but getting a 4870 (even the 512MB version) will give you a lot more.

To put it another way, the point at which more than 512MB becomes useful is the point at which you should look at a 4870 or GTX 260 or better.
