Goin old school here.

I have a motherboard that has the HD3300 / 790GX chipset. This motherboard will only be used for HTPC purposes and all reviews I can find say it will playback HD and Blu-Ray.

My question is that it also says it features a hybrid Crossfire which would allow me purchase a HD3450 and use it for a little more UMPH!

My question is that I've found some really cheap HD3450's on ebay but I'm not too sure which to get. Some of these do not sport an HDMI output. However the motherboard I'm using does have an onboard HDMI. As HDMI is my preferred method of seding a signal would I still be able to use the onboard HDMI if in Crossfire?

I havent owned an ATI card since the x850. I'm a bit lost in this world.

I thought the hybrid crossfire would allow you to combine that with any AMD card?
 
jeremy, can i use that card you linked hybrid crossfired with the onboard HD3300 as cabech suggested it would work with non HD34XX cards?
 
It won't work with non HD34xx cards. The HD4250 and HD4290 had the ability to, but I am unsure if AMD backported that capability down to the HD3000 IGPs.

Though I will note: the HD4550 will be more powerful than Hybrid Crossfire.
 
What I think I'll do is just stick with the onboard stuff for now. Reviews claim it can do HD video and decode Blu Ray, and I might put some vintage emulators on it too, but thats about it.

If i feel it doesnt have the power I need I'll probably go the 4550 route. I have a 5450 laying around here, but for what I want to do I think its overkill, and that thing gets HOT

it still is. it's the hybridpower thing that got dropped (using a powerful GPU, and the IGP, switching between the two for power/heat reasons).
