HD2900XT 1GB

"The Worlds Fastest Graphics Card" comment makes me laugh. They shouldn't be so sure.

If they can get the fill rate up, it should do a good bit better. I doubt if GDDR4 will help that though.

It's amazing and not really a surprise to see just how fast this card became the laughing stock of the pc gaming community.

AMD take note and by all means take it ALL in, and never let this happen ever again.

The GTS 320 proved that 320MB isn't enough for higher resolutions anymore and that was on an 8800GTS. The 2900XT is a little faster than that so there's a good chance that going over 512MB will make a big difference.

^^^ 2900XT 512mb is on par with the GTS 320mb %90of the time, and the GTS is faster in some cases, the only time was when above 1920 + res were used did the 2900Xt even get 5+fps ahead of the GTS and even then the GTX beat the XT.

the 1g will surely help at higher 1920 + res, but enough to make it worth the 120w+ power consumption and and larger price tag?

Lets not mention how much 1 GB of GDDR4 is gonna cost...cant wait to see the price. It'll effectively cost as much as an 8800gtx, and if it doesnt perform, tough luck folks.

I'm sure its a haunting case of reversed deja vu for ATi. Nvidia had the same problem a few years back. Let's not forget. And look at where they are now.

Give ATi time to put it in 6th and hit the gas.

They had their time. I was laughing at all the nVidia fanboys back then and watching them get terrible FPS with their brand new FX-series cards, feature-rich though they were.

The 2900HD never should have seen the light of day -- or should have been sold at a loss to maintain the company's good image. It'll take a huge improvement -- on the level of what was seen from nVidia after the ill-fated FX series -- to bring ATi back in to the minds of all but the most die-hard of their fanboys. I've never owned an nVidia card save the Geforce Go 6600 in my laptop prior to buying my 8800 GTX. ATi lost me when they failed to offer SM3.0 support in a timely manner and I got burned for 2 years as a result. HDR may be kind of pointless, but it sure is nice to see after two years of not even having the option in most games.

Haha worlds fastest gaming card, yeah right. I just love the PR BS, makes me smile everytime :)

Bet it was the same thing with Nvidias FX series way back when it got its ass handed by 9700pro.

The faster core clock and memory speed will increase the overall performance of the card yes, and p.s. i have an ati hd2900xt and its freakin brilliant, i take it you guys havent seen the ruby demo running on one of these cards in real time? its beyond belief.

You mean the tech demo where she was on the mountain?

I hated it, it was boring and seemed to be thrown together. If you want to see a REAL demo, try the nVidia human head demo. Now that is "freakin brilliant".

It is higher clocked on both core and memory. This should have no problems beating out GTS in most situations. I'm not so sure about GTX though.

Thats great and all I suppose, but personally, I play games... Not demos.

Oh yeah, they should bench the x2900's against an Ultra. Then do so, some XFire vs SLI.

So its overclocked a bit...i bet the difference will be akin to the 8800gtx vs 8800ultra - overclocking would net similar performance, and the premium it will cost is probably outrageous :)

Nobody should be buying the 2900, period. ...It need to go away and very quick.

Anybody that bought one, I have a 1969 Grand Trino wagon I can sell you for 5000 bucks. laugh

People can be so freaking stupid..

No need for name calling.

In the [H] re-review with the 2900xt with newer drivers, it lost consistantly to a 320mb 8800gts. This card is by no means awful, it is in fact more powerful than the current gen of cards. The only problem is it's price point, which sits it just above the 640mb 8800gts, when an equal (lets just call it even) card can be had for much much less. If you bought a 2900xt, lets face it...you should have either saved yourself 100 bux and gone with the 8800gts, but since you already like spending more than you have to, you should have just chipped in an extra 100 and got a card infinitely better (8800gtx).

The 1gb version is $100 more CAD than the 512mb version, check the ati forum for the link to the extreme pc place that has it listed.

And considering card with less ram can keep pace with the 2900, I don't see how adding on the extra 512 mb will help out, cept for crossfire, but who will spend the premium for that.
