Lately, every so often, my WD 80GB will randomly start to have a ZING noise (like the noise you hear in your ears if you shoot a gun without hearing protection). If I turn off the PC and turn it back on, it will be okay for awhile, then suddenly out of nowhere, that noise will come back again. Is it time for RMA?

Sometimes harddrives make noises.
Some are normal, some are not, but it's hard to tell by your descriptions.
Run chkdsk and the manufacturers diagnostics.

I just checked my HD's SN on WD's site, the warranty ended on 1/27/07. So if anything going bad, it will have to be a new HD.

id get a new drive just to be on the safe side. WD offers the Loyalty Program thingy where they give you a discount on a new drive if you give them the SN of your old drive. i dont quite know the details on it, i just saw the offer and i took it for one of my busted ol 80gigers. the prices were ok, you can find cheaper OEM's on newegg but they gave me a retail so i guess i paid for some extra warranty and packaging. check it out if your drive qualifies
