HD upside down?

So in my next mod, my original plan was to take an old HD chasis and flip it upside down so that it fits better in the case. Now that I was trying to fit it in, I realized that the holes don't line up when flip the HD over.... So now I'm wondering if there would be any harm in just having my HD's upside down, like so that the circuit board is facing upward. One will be a WD800JB, 80 gig IDE and the other is a WD2000JD, 200 gig SATA.

Also, if you happen know, what would be the harm in running a floppy drive upside down as well? That gets used maybe once a year....

It's no problem. Read the data sheet for your drive; it explains the acceptable mounting orientations.

Data sheet? You mean a piece of paper that comes with your hardware???? Does anyone actually keep that crap? And if it is something that came with the drive, I bought it last year as an OEM drive, so nothing else came with it.

Its actually a good way upside down because that is where the heat accumulates. Anyways, there should be no problem.


I wish somone would sticky basic hard drive questions because I see them comming up a lot here.
