I got right now an 80g Western Digital HD running on the IDE interface. I am going to buy the 74g raptor sata drive. Will I be able to do a ghost and boot?? Seeing is how they are diffrent interfaces im not sure if this can be done or not.

Thanks!

sure, you could even use WDs LifeGuard Diagnostic, which has a clone feature, however you might need to resize the first drive so its equal to or less than the second

with Ghost more advanced options are available
(provided the partion(s) arent full)

the interface will be invisible to either
you can clone from IDE(PATA) to SATA to SCSI to FibreChannel
and with the latest version of Ghost (v2003) USB and Firewire are supported as well

Thats all true what I am worried about now is the current HD is on the IDE interface and the new one will be ata. Once the data has been copied will windows boot off a diff interface without a reinstall?

you will need to install the drivers for the SATA
(probably bundled with your chipset driver)
so yes, it will boot fine, as they are more than likely already installed (disconnect the IDE drive so the boot order changes) boot order issues with the BIOS are the bigger problem, mainly because there isnt a standard way its handled between the various mobo\BIOS manufacturers, but with only one HDD it should auto recognize (hopefully)

then reattach the IDE (if you want) and again hopefully the boot order will stay, if not its time to investigate your BIOS boot options, bus mastering control

if your installing to an SATA however (fresh install)
those drivers arent present in the OS so they need to be added with the F6 install additional SCSI devices option
