I just built a new system and I've been testing out my Raid 1 array.

I'm running an Adaptec 1420SA controller and two WD2500SD.

I have been running tests to determine which driver combination performed the best. The Sequential Read graph used to be consistant.

Now after cleaning up all the cables I'm getting erratic graphs like this:

I was reading that due to improperly shielded SATA cables you shouldn't tie wrap cables together. I had only tie wrapped individial cables, not seperate drive cables together, but I removed all the tie wraps to be safe.

I ran WD diagnostics, no problems showed up. Any idea what could be causing these erratic results? Is this anything I should be concerned with?

No seriously, the first graph looks a little too perfect. It's very common to see dips in the graph like that. Esp. if this your boot drive and other things are running.
 
This drive is just a storage drive, no OS or system on it. It actually has nothing on it right now.

I just did a test, I moved the two HDD's to a different HD rack in the case, seperate from my OS drive (WD Raptor) and the dips started to dissapear. This is the same location the drives were mounted when the first graph was taken. I moved all 3 HDD's together so that they were all closer to the fan for better cooling.

Could the vibrations from the 3rd HDD be causing the dips? Would keeping the drives cooler be better than limitting the dips?
