Hey, I am in need of an experince person for a sec. I Have a Centurion 5 case, currently running with 2 HDs, a 3.5" floppy drive (shudders) and I'm thinking of getting a 3 HD. Now there isn't enough room in my case to have all my HDs have a space inbetween so they have breathing room, those suckers get warm. Would it be a problem from me to stack 2 HDs one right above the other, we're talking a 250GB under a 300GB P-ATA drives, my main system is a 200GB S-ATA at the very bottem of thedrive rack. My PC also has an OCZ Powerstream PSU so lots of power cables and I'm hiding those in the unused 5.25" bays, so no room there. In hind sight, I just should of gotten a bigger case, but my main concern right now is if putting two HDs that close together is going to cause problems?
 
Since there's an intake fan right next to the drives, you should be fine stacking them in there. Just put the two closest ones where the fan will blow on them. If you're concerned, use DTemp to check your hard drive temperatures.
 
You want SOME air flow between the drives, if the drives are litereally stacked and touching each other, that is too close and not good.
 
Yeah that's plenty, I've got the cooler master 4in3 drive cages and they put roughly .5 or less cm between drives and i've not had anything fail, air flow seems to be decent and they are cool to the touch.
 
I wouldn't recommend that as drives get super hot nowadays, but if you insist on it I would:

A. Make sure you have a fan blowing across the HDDs

and most importantly:

B: Put the top HDD in upside-down so that the heatsink side is facing up into the open air.

Great point here and i agree, make sure they are upside-down
 
I've got my 4 hard drives stacked so that they are up-down-up-down.
That way the gaps between them are appox the same size.
If I had them all stacked faceing up then two would need to touch.
Its the major advantage I've found of useing SATA drives.
