HD projector vs. HD screen

im slowly getting into gaming, i have the GPU, working on CPU. I have questions as far as the displays and now a taught occurred to me, why cant i use a nice Hi Definition projector and then i wouldnt have any problems as far screen size. im not going to go to big 30" at max. i would imagine it would be easier on my GPU. I was told it was a bit weak. I have the radeon 6770.
here are a few things you should know when offering your opinion.
I am budgeted.
What background color is it best to project on
do i need dim lighting to experience good graphics
and if there is anything you think i need to know more than my question please let me know. All opinions are appreciated.
 
Might want to check out WSGF for info on best projectors and setups and the like.

Because you havent bought one yet probably :p

White.
A high reflectivity screen is very good (looks like a bright plasma) if you sit within the seat space of max reflectivity, this can depend on where you put the projector as well.
Outside of that zone, it may be a bit dimmer than a standard white screen.
There are some pretty good glass bead screens on Amazon or Ebay if you cant afford the more exotic high reflectivity screens.

No matter what projector you get, black always looks blacker the darker the room.
Some level of light control is advisable, especially if you have bright walls.

There are some pretty neat projectors at amazing prices.
But the cheaper you go, often the more features are missing.

I'm using the Optoma HD131X (same as the HD25 just different colour cases) at only £650 when I bought it, it could be cheaper now.
This is an amazing projector, 1080p, pretty bright, 3D, superb quality image, 6000hr bulb life and is very cheap.
But, it has no ability to change the vertical height control apart from digital keystoning.
So while the keystone adjustment lets you adjust for not having the projector in optimal position, it doesnt allow the whole screen to be in focus.
If you can mount the projector from the ceiling at exactly the right height, you wont need to use keystone correction and will get perfect focus on the whole screen.
The downside of ceiling mounting is that high reflectivity screen benefits are reduced as your seating position is on the edge of the bright zone.
