ive been out of the whole computer scene for a while(6 months), whenever i browse these forum i end up spending money, so my question is whats a reasonable price to spend on a 40gb western digital 7200rpm 2 meg cache used?

$30 ?? something like that..

but for $50 - $60 you can get anywhere from a 40 gig - 80 gig 8mb cache drive with a warranty and everything...

Why even bother? If you are paying more than 50 cents per gig you're not doing your shopping. Fry's had a 160GB on sale for $60 after rebates. And there's a thread here where a Maxtor 60GB hd is going for under $20 after rebate today at OfficeDepot, I believe.

Search your Sunday adverts and always buy when the sales come up.
