HD Movies Stuttering

Alright here's my current HTPC build:
GA-MA69GM-S2H
AMD Athlon X2 64 4800+
2GB RAM

I'm playing my HD movies through Media Player Classic using CoreAVC. Most of the movies are in MKV containers, some are WMV. I haven't tried to play them locally from the hard drive yet, but they're being streamed across my wireless network. I've got a Netgear WGR614v9 with the latest firmware. Could the stuttering be caused by my hardware, or the wireless router?

Wireless, especially 54g sucks for streaming HD movies. Go with a wired connection. Try a movie locally first to confirm.

Alright I was afraid of that. I'll try that out. However, I am pretty much stuck using wireless since my HTPC is in my living room, so if that is the case, am I pretty much screwed?

Run a cable. You can get long ones.
