I hear clicking sounds, and then the HD would stop working. I can still move my cursor and type, but I cannot use many things in my system. I would have to reboot the system.

I have a 80 GB Western Digital Caviar series.

What is going on?

Backup any data you can't simply reinstall to CD/DVD/tape, even another drive if you have to. Run manufacturer diagnostics, they will probably tell you the obvious that the drive is on its way out, proceed to RMA if it is still under warranty.
