The HD-DVD press conference was full of announcements like video “clip sharing”, a download center, standard combo discs and the feasibility of a 51GB triple layered disc.

Kevin Collins of the HD DVD Promotion Group demoed the sharing feature, which lets users send defined clips from movies over the Internet to their friends (assuming they also have the title on disc). Users can start and stop custom movie clips with one-button begin and end functionality and the player will store the clip in the unit's memory and upload it over the network to send to a friend.

Clip sharing?

So I can send someone a clip of a movie that we both already own? Who comes up with this crap?

BTW, the announcement about the feasability of 51gb discs, was that they didn't know if it was feasible. I would assume that it is exactly as feasible as 12gb dvds and 75gb blu-ray dvds.

So basically, we can send someone that already has the movie some SMPTE timecode (in & out points) so they can see the same thing?

Why not just tell your friend "Hey, go to x.x.xx" or "dude, you can see her boobs right after she gets out of the shower!"

i don't understand how blade runner is getting a HD disc, the thing is soo old, how could it look better than a DVD.. i must admit, i have no idea how re mastering works :)

If they re-do the film transfer it can look really good (basically scanning at a higher resolution)

If they just take the DVD and upscale it... well then it's a waste.
