posted in HD forum as well, Im just not really sure where it should go, hoping to maybe get a response here.
i know there is a sticky post that has to do with drive clicking, but this is different.
i couldnt really figure out if this should go in the processor board or hd board since i dont really know WHICH is causing the problem.
pasted from another forum i go to
starting from the beginning obviously.
I had my computer up for 35days with no reboot, no problems, no slowdowns, all was well. i then test out rdesktop to remote into this machine from linux. that went well...i started using it again after that. then...it starts, lmao. i come back like 20-30min later and my computer has hard locked. i say no big deal, its a good time to throw in my ide controller card and another hd i got. i get it all in and hit power. everythings goin good, posts fine, switches to another screen showing the ide card hd's..all good. then windows begins to load..."CLICK" followed by the standard hd power up noise. this is where i pee my pants, ive been here before with out the ide card and fixed it. so i took out the card and proceeded to reboot. again, windows starts to load "CLICK". F***! this is where the wierdness begins. i hit the reset button, everything cycles....no POST though. so i power off and power back up again, posts fine, but windows still wont load. at this point i power down and take out the cmos battery switch the jumper to clear everything and all that noise. i reboot now running far below stock speed (1100mhz on my 2500 barton). NOW windows loads just peachy. i run chkdsk and everything. i then proceed to restore my OC settings (200x11 to get 2.2ghz). reboot, windows starts to load..."CLICK". i NOW try running at stock speed of 1.8ghz, windows booted just fine, no click from hd or anything. i have never heard of an overclock causing anything like this, and ive been running it overclocked like that for WELL over a year now and nothing like this.
PS: it sometimes also clicks while sitting in bios when cpu is overclocked.
running at stock speed right now as i type this.
computer is as follows
winxp sp1 (yeah yeah)
asus a7n8x dx pcb2.0 rev 1007 bios
256x2mb corsair xms pc2700
2x WD 120gb SE
radeon 9500
